A little over a week ago, I took a quick trip down to Carlsbad, CA to go visit the famous flower fields there, and I was not disappointed. Right now their ranunculus flowers are blooming like crazy, and it’s truly a gorgeous sight to see. It costs about $15 to get into the fields, but I would say that’s a rational price to pay given how cool the experience is.

Yellow is my favorite color, and seeing it so vibrantly presented in this beautiful ranunculus blooms was really amazing. I, personally, am not well-versed in the universe of flowers – my knowledge doesn’t tend to extend beyond admiring their beauty – but luckily my mom is. My mom is someone who truly appreciates the talent of growing and curating a beautiful garden of flowers, therefore she is constantly trying her best to educate me on the different breeds of flowers – which may not always stick, but I do deeply appreciate the effort.

I had a hard time choosing a favorite color of the ranunculus blooms as they were all so pretty and vibrant. However, there was a patch of ranunculus with multiple colors blended together that my mom and I tended to favor during our wandering. I also took a particular liking to the purple ranunculus located at the top of the hill that were a bit more sparse, as they were taking longer to bloom than the other colors.

As a way to properly see the fields in their entirety (the flower fields are about 50 acres wide), my mom and I decided to pay $5 for the tractor ride that would take us around the field’s perimeters – since there was no way we would be covering that by foot. The tractor ride was particularly nice because it really allowed us to see a nice view of the ocean from the top of the hill, despite the slight marine layer. The tractor also takes you by the part of the fields where they arranged red, white and blue flowers to look like the American flag.

Following the tractor ride, my mom and I decided to get some lemonade to cool off before we decided to continue exploring.

My mom informed me that the beautiful tall-looking flowers above are a type of foxglove, and the blooms in front of them are geraniums. The more you know. After resting with our lemonade for a bit, my mom and I decided to check out the Artist Garden, which was filled with several gorgeous flower displays (along with a couple bird cages).

The Artist Garden had a couple of beautiful arches with vines of flowers wrapped all around them, and plenty of flowers that attracted a few stray bumblebees. While the entire property is very calming and peaceful, I found the Artist Garden to be particular tranquil, mostly because it seemed to be the least crowded – which was especially ideal for my anxious self.

Overall, the Flower Fields at Carlsbad are a very beautiful sight to go see if you’re ever in the area of Carlsbad, CA. You really cannot beat the year-round gorgeous weather of Carlsbad coupled with such a colorful view. I’d definitely pin it as a must-visit for my fellow flower admirers visiting Southern California.
