Let’s Wander: Coronado Ferry Landing

March 9, 2017

With some inspiration from one of the several great books I’ve read so far this year, All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, I have decided to use the idea of ‘wandering’ as a way to present my photographs of the places I go – hence the ‘let’s wander…’ heading.

To provide some context, last weekend my family and I headed down to San Diego and took the ferry over to Coronado to celebrate my little cousin’s 13th birthday, and the excursion made for some great photo ops.

With the aid of my beautiful little cousin, Ashley (the girl in the pink jacket), I was able to capture some great shots of some gorgeous San Diego scenery both on and off the ferry. The middle two photos above were actually captured by Ashley herself, which means that our family may have another aspiring photographer on our hands.

Over on the ferry landing, my family and I had dinner at our favorite pizzeria on Coronado – Village Pizzeria Bayside. If you’re ever on the island and hungry for some pizza and a great view of the skyline, this is the spot to be at. The pizza is delicious, the staff is nice and friendly, and they were kind enough to bring over a sweet birthday dessert for my cousin after our meal – which I can personally say was definitely more than satisfactory.

After filling up on dinner, we all decided to take a stroll around some of the shops just off the landing in order to kill some time before the next ferry docked for our return trip. Luckily, we seemed to have timed our meal perfectly as we finished right around sunset, which made for some extra gorgeous photos. I also could not resist capturing a photo of my grandma in her element, with a camera in hand. My grandma is our family’s unofficial photographer. In fact, I am positive that my grandma is the person from whom I get my affinity for photography from, as you can always guarantee that she and I will be the first ones to take advantage of a good photo op.

Coronado has always been high on my list of ‘happy places’. Not only is the scenery unbeatable, the atmosphere of the island is always so serene and calm – it’s hard to be upset about anything when you’re surrounded by such beauty (and good weather). The island, and the ferry landing in particular, are places I have been frequenting since I was a child, so it also gives me that secure sense of nostalgic comfort. Additionally, as far as skylines go, San Diego’s skyline is certainly not one to be missed. So if you have yet to make a trip down to San Diego, I hope this post helps give you a little more incentive to come experience its beauty, not to mention perfect weather, in person.
